1.SUMMARY OF THE POSITION  

Doctors without Borders seeks to employ a suitable qualified Patient Support   Supervisor to join the team in Butterworth. In close collaboration with the HP Manager and Project Medical Responsible, oversee the implementation of patient support activities and access to quality basic services in external Pick-up Points in accordance with MSF protocols, standards and procedures, in order to empower patients in the face of their illness and treatment, beyond purely medical aspects of care

 

2. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. MAIN   RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Oversee planning and implementation of external Pick-up points, including rolling-out of model of care in selected PUPs

- Supervising/capacitating/ supporting CHWs, CBOs, or community members providing minimum package of     care at external Pick-up points, identifying current resources and gaps, proposing interventions to address gaps in roder to roll-out the model

- With support of PMR, HP Manager, and NAM, develop guidelines and tools in model PUPs including screening, monitoring, and data collection tools in line with DOH and MSF protocols

- Ensure quality and appropriate care, health education, and referral are provided at PUPs

- Support with registration of Pick-up points if  needed-empowerment of Community Based Organizations (CBOs)

  • Provide trainings on essential services to Community Health Workers, CBO members, and other community members who will provide health services and information to community Supervise CBO support workers and MSF Community Health Educators (CHEs) in implementing the Community Mobilization activity in collaboration with identified local CBOs. This can be done through defined strategy by the relevant CBO;
  • Document package of care in model PUPs and develop toolkit with guidelines and SOPs on how to implement model of care, as well as lessons learned and recommendations
  • Perform the functions and tasks associated with the background, whenever requested or necessary, in order to optimize resources, contributing with their knowledge and experience 
  • Implement all hygiene protocols and procedures, and check that your team adopts the same standards, in order to ensure that human resources needs are covered and maintain high levels of quality.
  • Organize and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment (medicine orders, monitoring of stock, storage conditions, inventories, monitoring of expired medicines and their destruction, medicine consumption, etc.) in your department, in order to satisfy material needs efficiently and effectively.
  • Together   with the Mental Health Activity Manager, participate in the planning, organization and coordination of Mental Health activities, in close collaboration with other members of the medical team, in order to ensure an effective and efficient implementation of the necessary resources, while maintaining the high levels of MSF’s Mental Health programs and activities.
  • Coordinate medical referral and counseling services activities with other relevant actors and liaise with local counterparts (such as the DOH clinics or CHCs, other organizations and service providers) for medical and MH referrals from PUPs.
  • Provide and/or coordinate administrative information (exit document, transfer document, etc.), information tasks and data collection (forms, forms and patient statistics, etc.) and prepare regular reports, so that there is updated and reliable information about daily activity in the project, production/result and support in decision making.
  • Present feedback/reports from the medical focal point.

 

3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Education         : Essential: Grade 12 / Matric Certificate

                            : Essential: Nursing diploma: general or specialized health services and/ or Bachelor’s 

                              degree in Nursing Science 

                            : Essential: Valid registration with the South African Nursing Council as Professional Nurse

                            Desirable: Community Nursing or Primary Health Care Nursing with experience in CCMDD

Experience        : Essential: Two years of experience working in a related field

                             Essential: At least 2 years in management or supervisory role

                             : Desirable:  Working in an MSF and DoH partnership context

  • Managing facility-based/Outreach Nursing team
  • Working directly with Non-Communicable Diseases
  • previous experience in MSF or other NGOs in developing countries

                             : South African citizenship or valid work visa is a must    

Language            Essential: Fluent in English and ability to communicate in IsiXhosa (or other Nguni languages)
