CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO MANAGE THE NATIONAL COORDINATION OFFICE OF THE SELF-HELP GROUP APPRAOCH PROGRAMME IN ESWATINI

Kindernothilfe (KNH) seeks cooperation with an experienced and committed organisation to manage the Self-Help Group Approach (SHGA) programme in Eswatini. The cooperation will include management of the programme, finance and administration.

Kindernothilfe was founded in 1959 as a Christian organisation. It has become one of the largest child rights organisations in Germany. The goal of KNH is to contribute to form a world in which children and young people can live a life of human dignity, develop individually and together with their families and communities. KNH works with local non-governmental organisations to implement 523 projects in 36 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean, reaching out to more than 2.1 million children and young people.

Kindernothilfe has been working in Eswatini since 1979. Currently, KNH works with 5 NGOs in Eswatini. Projects implemented include the Self-Help Group Approach (SHGA) with 8 organisations. The SHGA was introduced in Eswatini in 2003. It focuses on social, political and economic empowerment of women through group formation training and mentoring. The groups meet regularly to save, borrow, discuss, and take actions to address their social problems. The outcomes of these engagements are directly linked to the improved quality of life of children. Currently, the SHGA programme reaches out to over 36,000 children and 12,890 women who are members of 1,008 Self-Help Groups. The SHGA seeks to address the structural causes of poverty. KNH considers the SHGA to be a successful instrument for empowerment. The programme is implemented through partner capacity development, with small grants in start-up years. A National Coordinator (NC) and an Assistant National Coordinator (ANC) are assigned to work full time, supported by the managing organisation’s own finance and administration staff.

Information on the SHGA is available on the KNH website: https://www.kindernothilfe.org/About+us/How+we+work/Self_Help+Groups-p-344.html

ELIGIBILITY: Any applicant must be duly registered as a local or international organisation in Eswatini with functional management systems and governance structure; compliant to mandatory regulatory requirements; and with experience in managing similar development programmes.

Interested organisations should submit electronic copies of an expression of interest, not more than 5 pages; certificate of registration; the organisation’s constitution; list of current board members/trustees and their positions, staff roles and responsibilities in the managing arrangement, including curriculum vitae of key staff; organisational profile to show the applicant’s experience in handling similar work; audit reports for the last 2 years.
