Doctors Without Borders South Africa Mission NPC has been providing medical services in South Africa since 1999 in Khayelitsha and in Eshowe since 2011. In 2015, an ambitious project in Rustenburg was opened, focusing on services related to Sexual
and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and in 2018;the 4th project was opened in Tshwane, supporting migrant health.

1. SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Doctors without Borders seeks to employ a suitable qualified Digital Health Promoter Officer to join the team in Butterworth. This is a unique role marrying social media management and health promotion. The Digital Health Promotion Officer will contribute to the implementation of digital health promotion strategy in the Butterworth project for programmatic use, according to the overall project health promotion strategy and MSF standards. They will support health promotion and community engagement activities of the project through digital tools, with strong emphasis on social media.


2. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES


Implement and maintain overall digital Health Promotion / Patient and Community Support communication strategy for the project together with DHP coordinator and PSU & HP referents (in project and HQ), including content production and community management


- Situational Analysis: support HP Manager in conducting rapid needs assessment to understand the access and feasibility of the DHP campaigns for the communities in the project’s catchment area. Utilizing findings of such assessments in the design of the DHP component of the HP Strategy.
- Planning digital health promotion campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness and uptake of services among the targeted population.
- Community management: organizing daily social media management, developing and maintaining network of social media ambassadors and other allies, cooperating with the rest of the staff on gathering content and stories around various activities.
- Content production: Producing audio-visual content according to the needs, in line with MSF’s guidelines for ethical consent and logo/branding, and consistently developing content that supports patient support and health promotion activities in the project and organizing a pre-testing of the contents according to defined SOPs.
- Assisting Health Promotion Activity Manager in assessing the patient support needs based on information obtained through digital conversations with patients. Providing basic patient support and counselling services through digital conversations with patients.
- Training and recruitment: Training team members resources on how to work incorporating social media into their programmatic activities as a tool for HP.
- Ensure implementation of DHP on International Health Days: Ensure that planned Digital HP activities are organized around significant health days (according to the health calendar) as much as possible, in order to link with other planned HP activities.


Ensure continuous monitoring and evaluating of the digital health promotion activities according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures, including for operational researches
- Identify Key Performance Indicators in order to monitor digital HP/PCS activities, results, and achievements.
- Analyse data collected and participate in data reporting meetings with medical teams to discuss trends/ health situations, etc.
- Participating in communication of data-collection, analysing and reporting of patient support digital activities as required and informing on the progress of digital HP/PS strategy.
- Ensuring that teams comply with MSF data security practices.
- In collaboration with the line manager, contribute to the development of research on the impact of digital HP activities. Carry out assessments and contribute to report writing on the impact of digital HP activities and identify and report the constraints, difficulties or strength points of the digital HP strategy in order to reinforce the link between the communities and the project.


Teamwork and collaboration
- Ensuring good digital communication and collaboration with the other components of the project and other partners working on patient support.
- Conduct workshops for project teams on Digital Health Promotion awareness and participation.
- Support HP Manager in enhancing stakeholder networking and collaboration through ensuring that external stakeholders (DoH HP Manager, DoH Social Media Manager, other Partners) are updated regarding planned DHP activities, and when needed seek approval / validation of messages which might have reference to activities implemented by these stakeholders.

2. REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or relative diploma qualification in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Business Studies, Public Health, Health Promotion or related field is desirable
- Online/digital marketing certificates are an added advantage.
- Candidates without a degree may be considered if they possess significant additional experience in social media management, monitoring and content production
- Counsellor certificate is an added advantage.


Experience
- At least 2 years of professional experience in social media management and community building, social media content production and messaging & social media monitoring and reporting.
- Counselling experience is desirable
- 2 years of previous experience in NGO sector and/or experience with patient support / health promotion activities is desirable
- Demonstrated successful experience in implementing social media strategies.
- Graphic design and video production experience highly desirable.
- Good writing skills and ability to adapt writing style to appeal to various audiences.
- Good understanding of health promotion, public health & social media.
- Strong empathetic ability, as well as a mental fortitude to function in a sensitive and traumatising context of MSF patients.
- Strong ability to keep confidentiality and follow correct procedure in referring any partici-pants in need of further information to the relevant team members.
- Good networking skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Proficiency with content creation tools (Adobe Creative Cloud) highly desirable
- Managing social network accounts and communities on Facebook as well as other platforms. Including platform technical capabilities, social media analytics.
- Creative and flexible approach to work, and ability to work well within a team.


Language
- Fluent written and spoken English, and additional local languages (IsiXhosa and other Nguni languages) are desirable

- South African Citizen or holder of a valid South African work permit.
