Background and Main Purpose of the Job:
Financial management and planning remain a critical aspect of ACFS ability to sustain funder confidence. This role focuses on providing the necessary systems and processes to ensure that generally accepted checks and balances are built into the organisation’s financial management system and that these processes are updated regularly to ensure compliance with the required level of reporting as may be determined by the organisation’s board of management, its Executive Director and other regulated authorities such as the SARS etc
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Financial Management and Accounting, plus a professional qualification such ACCA, CIMA etc.
- A valid drive’s license
- Minimum Experience:
- 5 years or more senior management experience within the NGO and or development sector with the following:
- Qualified accountant with membership of a professional body such as SAIPA, ACCA, CIMA etc
- Experience of financial management and administration
- Experience of sales invoicing processes
- Experience of data management and manipulation
- Experience of preparing financial reports (internal and external)
- Experience of year-end procedures and preparing supporting documentation
- Experience of providing support & appropriate training to non-financial managers
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- Proven staff management skills

Duties/ responsibilities
- Overall control of the company’s accounting function financial planning and related ongoing advice for the Executive Director and senior management
- Formulating financial targets and budgets in accordance with the strategy determined by the Board of Management
- Overall control of all financial transactions and accountancy matters, including audit systems
- Managing company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity and acquisitions, as appropriate
- Preparing annual accounts
- Ensuring that the regulatory requirements of all Statutory bodies are met regarding ACFS Financial affairs
More specifically the functionary will undertake the following key tasks:
- To manage the ACFS financial data:
- Ensuring accuracy of data posted to the accounts software package, resolving discrepancies as needed
- Maintaining Balance Sheet account reconciliations, including acting as point of contact for Human Resources staff on payroll
- reconciliations and pension and other statutory calculations
- Working with staff across the organisation to ensure that ACFS financial data meets the requirements of the Finance function (for example, working with fundraising units to develop sales forecasts as per the organisational income generation strategy)
- To manage ACFS sales invoicing function, including:
- Setting up systems to enable the Finance team to take on sales invoicing
- Managing credit control

- Weekly Cash flow monitoring and forecasting
- To work with the Executive Director and Senior Manager programmes including the Donor Liaison officer to manage ACFS annual budgeting process:
