Humana People to People in South Africa seeks to recruit 1 (one) Social Auxiliary Worker. The successful applicants will be based at Zululand District, Kwazulu Natal Province.
HPPSA is looking for candidates that meet the below listed qualities:
Job Purpose
The Social Auxiliary Worker (SAW) in the Sex Work programme will primarily be responsible for conducting individual assessments and providing therapeutic interventions for sex workers and the programme team. They do this activity under the supervision and guidance of the Social Worker.
Qualifications/ Requirements
- Grade12/Matric
- Valid driver’s license
- Social Auxiliary Worker qualification
- 2 years’ Experience working with Population Group Sex Workers.
- Experience in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support programming.
- Understanding of NPO
- Understanding and Knowledge of health systems
- Communication skills (verbal and written)
- Report writing skills.
- Sound negotiation skills
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities
- Computer literacy
- performance management and monitoring skills
- High-level planning and organisational skills
- Good interpersonal skills, including being a team player.
- Demonstrate strong professional attitude and behaviour at all times.
Detailed Key Accountabilities/ Responsibilities
Therapeutic interventions / psychosocial support for sex workers
- To provide safe and confidential psychosocial or crisis interventions for sex workers in the programme.
- Implement referral mechanisms that will include follow-up and escalation of cases, as well as provision of feedback to affected individuals
- Conduct mental health screening for sex workers to identify potential mental health problems, provide support to the sex worker or do appropriate referral.
- Process intake and conduct assessments aimed at identifying conditions in sex workers and families and identify relevant interventions
- Supervise and offer support to Sex Workers
- If required, provide trauma containment support for sex workers.
- To follow up on each client, checking adherence to ART, TB treatment or PEP.
- Support referral for services sex workers may require.
- Support the programme team with identifying sex workers for dignity packs.
Reporting, Administration and Facilitation
- Complete the required data collection tools.
- Compile reports on client trends, needs, challenges and actions.
- Participate in general programme activities.
- Perform related office administration duties of the programme.
- Attend meetings, briefings, debriefing, staff meetings and other as directed to do so on a regular basis.
- Support programme team with risk reduction workshops, small groups and sensitisation trainings when required.
Personal development
- Participate in learning and development opportunities (trainings, workshops, information sessions etc.).
- Stay abreast of developments in the fields of sex work, HIV/AIDS, STIs and TB.
- Willingness to receive debriefing from Clinical Specialist regularly.
Organisational responsibilities
- Attend meetings, briefings, debriefing, staff meetings and other as directed to do so on a regular basis.
- Additional responsibilities delegated by managers from time to time.
- Represent the organisation and ensure you adhere to the ethos and principles.
- Act as a role model to strengthen positive behaviour change of sex workers and peer educators.
