Position:  Social Media Coordinator  

Location:  Rosebank, Johannesburg 

Contract duration:  Fixed term contract up to 28 February 2024

Healthy Living Alliance (HEALA) is a coalition of civil society organisations advocating for equitable access to affordable, nutritious food in South Africa by building a more just food system.  HEALA’s vision is a South Africa in which all people have equitable access to healthy food to unlock their full potential

 

The Role:

The Social Media Coordinator will work in close collaboration with the Communications Manager and HEALA’s Senior Management team to ensure the implementation of HEALA’s communication strategy. THE role holder will also implement, monitor and evaluate communications to support HEALA’s primary policy advocacy campaigns.

 

Who we're looking for: 

 

The ideal candidate should have: 

  • A bachelor's degree in social media management, marketing, or a related field; or equivalent experience 

  • Fluent written and spoken English is essential; one other South Africa language is highly desirable. 

  • At least five years’ experience in journalism or communications

  • Experience with web content management systems. 

  • Experience and understanding of working on social media platforms. 

  • Experience with newsletter delivery systems such as Mailchimp is advantageous 

  • Experience of working with healthy food policies and nutrition is advantageous. 

  • Experience and excellent skills in communications technology (specifically SharePoint and other Office 365 collaboration tools)

  • Sound knowledge of the South African media sector, including news production cycles and outlets.

  • Sound knowledge of social media and website metrics.

  • Knowledge of healthy food policies and nutrition is an added advantage but is not essential

  • Ability to perform work with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Self-starter with the ability to problem-solve independently and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Understanding of best practices and trends on social media platforms.

  • Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts.

  • Proven ability to identify news pegs or new story angles or help to identify opportunities for messaging.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 programmes and collaboration tools.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate about complex issues in sensitive and compelling ways.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Highly organized with the ability to work independently

  • Must well independently and as a team member.

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work/connect with diverse culture/contexts.

  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally when required 

  • Sincere commitment to social justice and health equity and to HEALA’s values. 

  • Proven ability to translate health and/or scientific research jargon into easy-to-understand language; experience in helping researchers and experts do the same is an added advantage.

  • Basic HTML skills is an added advantage
