We as the HopeTown community love God and love people by creating opportunities for holistic development through education, skills training and mentoring. We are based in the heart of the Ocean View community with the desire to see lives transformed.
HopeTown Education seeks volunteer Tutors who love Jesus, are passionate, committed and skilled and who would be able to support high school students in our after-school tutoring programme, Student Hub.
The tutor will be facilitating the learning environment, either one-on-one or in small groups. Learners bring the material they want to cover and/or tutors bring / use available worksheets in the subjects the learners require assistence to improve understanding.
The successful candidate will want to make a difference through education in the lives of high school learners living in the Ocean View Community.
Requirements:
- Ability to commit for at least three months;
- Available for a tutor induction/training session/meeting;
- Available Tues, Wed, Thurs (15h00-17h00) and/or Fri (14h00-16h00)
- Fluent in English and/or Afrikaans
- Strong in one or more of the following school subjects: Maths, Physical Science (Physics & Chemistry), English, Accountancy, Afrikaans, Biology (Life Sciences), History, Geography, and Business/Economics, Computers, Consumer Studies.
- Able to build positive tutor-learner relationships;
- Commitment and punctuality;
- Ability to work in a group setting;
- A passion for working with young people;
- Patience and Initiative;
- Ability to help learners become self-sufficient.
