The 7th Heaven Children’s Haven, situated in Jeffreys Bay Eastern Cape, was founded in 2002 by Nelly Senong, a very gifted lady with a calling to help children in need. The Haven provides full-time care and counselling to children taken into care by the social services due to severe neglect, abandonment or abuse. As a support group grew, the Haven became a Section 21 Company, nonprofit organisation registered and South African Revenue Service tax exempt.
The 7th Heaven Children’s Haven’s mission is to transform the child’s environment so that the child can experience a loving home, to let the child be a child again and develop him/her to become a valued member of society.
The organisation’s main activities revolve around the care and development of the children, clinic visits, school work, occupational therapy, counselling, play therapy and development activities such as gymnastics and pre-school activities for the little ones, Montessori-based. Volunteers are so wonderful in helping with some of these activities.
There are many challenges faced by the 7th Heaven Children’s Haven, particularly in health and education, as well as funding where sponsors are still needed. 7th Heaven Children’s Haven is currently expanding its new premises and requires assistance in furnishing the new classroom/pre-school area however, and would welcome assistance in this, and with paving etc.
The organisation’s contribution to society, is to care for the children in need and re-integrate them into the education system as well as developing the child to become a valued member of the community, maintaining the family relationship where possible so that community and family roots are not lost.
