Zambia invites Japanese tech firms to join its digital journey

Zambia is looking for partnerships with some Japanese technology firms to enhance the Southern African country's digital economy, with an initial focus on health, energy, and waste management.President Hakainde Hichilema met with industry executives in the Asian nation during an official tour of Japan this week at the invitation of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.On Wednesday, the Zambian leader led a group to Southern-Central Kyoto, where he met with executives from the Horiba Technologies Group and the Sustaina Kyoto South Clean Centre.Horiba is a global provider of analytical equipment, including technology solutions for environmental sustainability and health diagnostics.“We hope to partner with Horiba to improve healthcare services in Zambia,” Hichilema said.The president also met with executives from Sustaina Kyoto, where the group discussed waste management technology that converts waste into energy.He said: “We have directed the Ministry of Local Government to replicate this concept with local authorities, promoting sustainable waste management and energy generation.”
