About This Role
MEDIA RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST ENVIRONMENTAL LAW FIRM AND NON-PROFIT RIGHTS OF NATURE FIRM
MEDIA RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST ENVIRONMENTAL LAW FIRM AND NON-PROFIT RIGHTS OF NATURE FIRM SOUTHERN SUBURBS, CAPE TOWN  

This position is a combination role within a prominent Environmental Law Firm, and the related Non-Profit organisation which promotes the Rights of Nature and Earth-centred Governance, and will require a candidate who will be able to elevate the public profiles of both organisations, strengthen their digital presence and support strategic legal and advocacy initiatives through high quality media engagement.  

The role will demand a strong “story-teller” with proven experience in media relations, digital communications and social media strategy.  Also it requires a person who is passionate about protecting nature and social justice in the environmental sphere.
Requirements & Qualifications
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED will include
Degree or Diploma in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Public Relations or related fields, and work history of at least  3-5 years of media relations communications or digital content management.
Strong understanding of social media platforms and analytical tools
Ability to translate complex ideas (legal, policy-related and scientific) into clear engaging messaging.
Organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preference is also for exposure to environmental organisations, advocacy campaigns and human rights/climate justice issues.  

The successful candidate will have a passion for environmental justice and protection, and will be a proactive, creative and solutions-oriented individual with strong inter-personal skills and ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
The Key Areas of Responsibility are:
Media Relations and Strategic Communications to develop and manage media relations strategies for both organisations to enhance visibility and reputation through press, media advisories, opinion pieces and feature articles.     
-  Build relationships with journalists, editors, broadcasters and related influencers
in the environmental, legal and human rights sectors.     
-  Prepare talking points, Q&A briefs and messaging frameworks for high profile
litigation, public campaigns, and advocacy projects.
Digital Presence and Social Media Management through various platforms, while monitoring audience engagement so as to adjust strategies to meet the need.
Website Content, Tracking and Online Updates including specific project websites for such projects as GARN African Hub and Table Mountain Rights. Campaign and Project Support requiring conceptualizing, planning and executing media campaigns and strategic plans for both organisations.
