Job Title: Junior Bookkeeper/Financial administrator (NPO Sector)
Location: Athlone, Western Cape
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 13:00 (Half Day)
Start Date: As soon as possible (preferred)

The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children (SBCWC) is a one-stop centre for women and children who are survivors of gender-based violence.
About the Role We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and proactive Bookkeeper to join our organisation on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for someone with experience in the non-profit (NPO) sector who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities.
Roles & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities    
Responsible for the full day-to-day processing and administration of financial transactions:
 
  • Capture financial transactions monthly on Xero accounting software, including supplier invoices, receipts, and journals
  • Maintain accurate and up to date general ledger records
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts, ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Maintain and reconcile petty cash on a daily/weekly basis and capture to XERO.
  • Perform supplier reconciliations and ensure all invoices are correctly recorded
  • Prepare and load supplier payments onto the banking platform for approval
  • Capture and allocate all receipts and maintain accurate debtor records
  • Issue receipts and assist with tracking outstanding income
  • Prepare maintain staff loan/advances records
  • Assist with preparation of section 18A tax certificates and supporting schedules
  • Maintain VAT schedules and supporting records for submission.
  • Maintain an organised filing system and ensure all transactions are supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Assist with audit preparation and information requests
  • Maintain and update asset registers and assist with inventory tracking and reconciliations.
  • Assist in compilation of donor and grant financial reports, including preparation of project-specific schedules
  • Ensure correct allocation of income and expenditure to projects and donors
  • Maintain complete, organised, and audit-ready supporting documentation
  • Support Finance Manager with any other ad hoc duties as required
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero or similar accounting system (Xero preferable)
  • Matric with Accounting or Finance-related studies preferred.
  • At least 2 years of finance or bookkeeping experience (NPO experience advantageous).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Solid understanding of bookkeeping principles and reconciliations
  • Solid understanding of donor capturing
  • Experience with VAT
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Familiarity with Section 18A requirements and reporting
  • Previous experience supporting audits
