Humana People to People in South Africa seeks to recruit 1 Professional Nurse. The successful applicants will be based in Capricorn district (Blouberg Municipality), Limpopo Province.

JOB PURPOSE

The Professional Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive, high-quality primary health care services to sex workers in line with national clinical guidelines and Global Fund programme requirements. The role includes clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, referral, follow-up care, and health education, with a strong focus on HIV, TB, STIs, SRHR, and harm reduction. The Professional Nurse also ensures quality assurance, accurate clinical documentation, mentoring of junior cadres, and effective linkage between outreach, safe spaces, and health facilities.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Clinical Services: Consultation, Diagnosis, and Treatment

•    Provide clinical consultations, assessments, and nursing diagnoses in line with national policies, protocols, and standard treatment guidelines.

•    Conduct physical examinations, symptom analysis, and relevant screening and diagnostic tests.

•    Initiate, manage, and follow up clients on:

◦     HIV testing services (HTS);

◦     PrEP initiation and continuation;

◦     PEP initiation and management;

◦     STI screening and treatment;

◦     TB screening and referral; and

◦     Family planning and SRHR services.

•    Initiate and manage ART in line with NIMART protocols (where organisational authorisation and pharmaceutical access exist).

•    Manage opportunistic infections and refer complex cases appropriately.

•    Attend to trauma cases and medical emergencies in accordance with clinical and referral protocols.

•    Manage follow-up care for referrals and clients on long-term treatment.

2. Service Linkages and Programme Integration

•    Respond to referrals from Peer Educators, Safe Space Coordinators, Social Workers, and Programme Management.

•    Ensure effective linkage and continuity of care between outreach teams, safe spaces, and health facilities.

•    Support adherence counselling and biomedical support group activities for sex workers.

3. Clinical Administration and Reporting

•    Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records and registers, including HTS, ART, PrEP, PEP, STIs, TB screening, family planning, and referrals.

•    Manage medical supplies, HTS kits, and pharmaceuticals in accordance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).

•    Monitor HTS, treatment, and referral data to track performance against programme targets.

•    Submit accurate daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly clinical reports to the Programme Manager, PR, SANAC, and DoH as required.

4. Quality Assurance and Compliance

•    Adhere to infection prevention and control, occupational health and safety, and clinical governance standards.

•    Support implementation of quality assurance frameworks, including Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance (ICRM) and National Core Standards (NCS), with guidance from CCI.

•    Ensure medical equipment is functional and correctly maintained.

•    Participate in clinical audits, assessments, and quality improvement activities.

•    Conduct periodic review of policies, procedures, and SOPs; develop and update SOPs as required.

•    Ensure implementation of endorsed and approved programme guidance documents.

•    Provide supervision and training of HTS and Linkage Officers.

5. Mentorship, Supervision, and Capacity Building

•    Provide clinical mentoring and supervision to Enrolled Nurses, HTS Linkage Officers, and other relevant cadres.

•    Support achievement of HTS and linkage-to-care targets.

•    Conduct regular (bi-weekly) meetings with supervised staff to review performance and address challenges.

•    Reinforce clinical procedures, emergency responses, infection control, and waste management practices.

6. Health Education and Community Engagement

•    Provide health education on HIV, TB, STIs, SRHR, harm reduction, family planning, and healthy lifestyles.

•    Support programme activities, community engagements, and health campaigns in collaboration with the Department of Health.

•    Contribute to creating a safe, respectful, and rights-based clinical environment for sex workers.

7. Professional and Organisational Responsibilities

•    Maintain strict confidentiality, ethical conduct, and professional standards at all times.

•    Participate in staff meetings, briefings, debriefings, and programme reviews.

•    Represent the organisation professionally and uphold its values and principles.

•    Undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned to support programme objectives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFIATIONS

•     Registered Professional Nurse with SANC.

•     NIMART certification (mandatory where ART initiation is required).

•     Valid HTS certification.

•     PULSA Plus / PHC 101 / PACK training.

•     Dispensing certificate (dispensing licence is an added advantage).

•     Valid driver's licence.
