Are you an eager learner and creative thinker with a passion for digital strategy? Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS) is seeking a Multimedia Intern. The internship is for 12months. As a Multimedia Intern at TIPS, you will be responsible for the following:
Role highlights:
• Craft innovative digital strategies and content creation for various channels.
• Stay ahead of digital trends and contribute fresh ideas. In-depth understanding of digital channels and technologies.
• Assist with conducting media monitoring.
• Marketing activations and exhibitions.
• Supporting TIPS events planning and its conferences, dialogue events, seminars, and workshops and collaborating with project coordinators.
• Support on the TIPS website.
• Maintain TIPS e-database.
• Archiving and storage of communication products.
• Maintain TIPS marketing inventory.
• Assisting with communications and marketing tasks as required.
• Support website administration including making edits and managing content.
• Curate social media content for all social media platforms.
• The Multimedia Intern supports the Communication teams by creating, editing, and managing visual content.
• This role includes video editing, graphic design, and content creation for various platforms. Bringing together text, photographs, graphics, illustrations, infographics, layouts, digital animation, video, photography, and audio to create a range of impactful multimedia products that can be viewed on various devices and platforms to diverse audiences using multiple channels.
Qualifications required:
• A bachelor’s or honour’s degree in journalism, Media and Communications, Development Studies, Social Sciences or any other applicable discipline
Experience and Competences required:
• Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Excellent English (both written and spoken), presentation skills and ability to generate content.
• Confident communication style and excellent skills in editing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Some experience in social media management and content creation.
• Some experience with database and Content Management Systems (WordPress/Joomla), Mailchimp/Everlytics, Hootsuite and general social media channels like X, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Familiar with web-based technology, and social media management platforms (e.g.Hootsuite), graphic design tools (Canva or Adobe Creative Suite), content creation tools(e.g., Grammarly for writing), and communication and webinar platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
• Familiarity with media monitoring tools and analytics platforms can also be valuable.
• Self-driven nature demonstrated versatility and integrity, excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work both independently to develop positive working relationships with individuals and across teams.
• Creativity with a commitment to quality and excellence
• Highly versatile with the ability to keep up to date with new and emerging technology and trends in multimedia communication.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community.
• Ability to organise and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritisation to meet deadlines.
• Non-negotiable ability to work in support of a team.
• A high level of personal motivation, initiative and enthusiasm
• Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize, sharp eye for detail and ability to self-manage and work towards deadlines.
• Understanding of the media landscape in the country and ability to work across media platforms.
• A passion for storytelling and photography will be a bonus.
• An economics background would be an added advantage.

Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS) is an independent, non-profit, economic research institution based in Pretoria. It was established in 1996 to support economic policy development, with an emphasis on industrial policy, in South Africa and the region. Its areas of focus are trade
and inclusive industrial policy, and sustainable development. TIPS approach is to integrate research and analysis, policy development, disseminating information, capacity building, technical support, and programme design and management. To support these activities, TIPS researchers are expected to provide world-class quantitative and qualitative socio-economic analyses.
