Background

Sizakuyenza is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by people living in informal housing in Philippi on the Cape Flats. We have a multifaceted community development approach with a focus on social work services. This includes a shelter for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) and their children and a community outreach programme supporting children and families affected by loss and grief as the result of interpersonal violence.   

Purpose

The director is responsible for the overall management and strategic leadership of Sizakuyenza, ensuring the fulfilment of its vision and mission, the effective implementation of its strategy, and successful fundraising efforts to support these goals.  

The ideal candidate is an experienced social work or community development manager, motivated to lead a committed team who are passionate about supporting vulnerable women and children in Philippi and the surrounding communities. They are resilient and have an inclusive, mentoring leadership style.


Responsibilities

Strategic Planning Lead and drive the development and implementation of Sizakuyenza’s strategy.
Fundraising Lead and coordinate fundraising, maintain strong relationships with donors and ensure accurate and timely donor reporting.
People Management Foster and nurture a supportive organisational culture in which team members are valued and mentored. Create development opportunities for staff and hold them accountable for the delivery of their KPAs.
Stakeholder Relations Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community stakeholders, including clinics, schools, courts, NGOs, CBOs, government departments and civil society networks
Programme Management Support the Operations Manager with oversight and delivery of the Victim Empowerment and Children & Families programmes.
Communications Management Ensure that Sizakuyenza has a well-recognised, credible public profile and that our communications strategy attracts both service users and investors
Financial Management oversight Responsible for the annual budgeting process, ensuring financial sustainability and effective financial administration Governance & Compliance Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and policies and actively manage risk.  

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
● NQF level 7 in social work, community development or another relevant field
● Minimum 10 years professional experience, including at least 5 years management experience gained within a non-profit or social impact organisation
● Previous experience gained in community development, gender-based violence or women and children’s programmes is essential
● Successful track record of fundraising, proposal writing and building donor relationships
● Experienced at building and fostering deep, trusting internal and external relationships

● Computer literacy, including documents, spreadsheets and presentations

● Fluency in isiXhosa is ideal
