CONTEXT
 
SANCCOB, a leading organisation dedicated to the conservation of seabirds, is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Fundraising and Marketing Lead to join the team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working in the non-profit sector, with a specific focus on fundraising and marketing, and will possess a passion for working with conservation-minded partners. THE POSITION 
As the Fundraising and Marketing Lead, you will need a clear understanding of SANCCOB’s operations and its mission, vision and strategic objectives. You will be responsible for spearheading fundraising and marketing and leading a small team of fundraisers. This position is a critical role, and you will need a strong background in institutional fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and people management.
  
 
Key Result Areas – OUTPUTS   The Fundraising and Marketing Lead will undertake a range of functions, which includes those set out below:   ·       

Fundraising and marketing strategic development and resource mobilisation
:

o   Provide specialist input and direct the development of a fundraising and marketing strategy, ensuring it is effectively executed and managed.
o   Implement new fundraising techniques in response to changes in the general fundraising environment.
o   Lead the fundraising and marketing team to ensure optimal performance and create and implement strategies to secure long-term funding and engage key stakeholders.
o   Take overall responsibility for the performance of the team and the financial targets set.
o   Be responsible for securing strategic collaborations and institutional fundraising, including foreign aid.
o   Develop and nurture strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners, ensuring sustained and meaningful connections.
o   Design and execute successful fundraising campaigns.
o   Monitor and assess the success of fundraising and marketing efforts, using data and feedback to optimise strategies.
o   Collaborate with the senior leadership team to align fundraising goals with SANCCOB’s long-term vision and strategic objectives.
o   Inspire and lead the team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.  

· Research and proposals:
o   Analyse fundraising and marketing programmes and trends to ensure the growth of the organisation.
o   Lead and facilitate the production of professional, high-quality, and appropriate fundraising proposals and coordinate the submission of all funding proposal submissions for the organisation, locally and globally.
o   Research and develop a pipeline of major gift prospects interested in funding seabird conservation in South Africa.
 
· Donor relations:
o   Ensure that donor stewardship strategies are implemented and managed.
o   Develop, and maintain relationships with current donors, to ensure continued support, and identify new fundraising and donor engagement opportunities, with a focus on sustainable funding (3-5 years).
o   Develop and build relationships with new high value prospects, external partners and networks to maximise fundraising opportunities.  

· 
Budget development/management, record keeping, reporting, and donor database management:

o   Ensure that excellent donor records are maintained, and that the donor database (DEVMAN) is continuously updated and optimally utilised. This includes regular communications with donors (newsletters, mailshots, etc.).
o   Ensure that donor records, funding applications, and report backs, are timeously submitted to ensure optimal donor management.
o   In collaboration with the fundraising and marketing team, and the Head of Operations, compile annual income and expenditure budgets for the fundraising and marketing department.

  · Marketing, Media, and Communications:
  o   Develop and ensure the implementation of an effective marketing and media strategy to enhance the organisation’s brand value and optimise overall media performance (all platforms/channels), both locally and globally.
  
o   Oversee fundraising and marketing events.
  o   Oversee the creation of engaging marketing materials, campaigns, and digital content to raise awareness of SANCCOB’s mission and work.
  o   Participate in promoting fundraising activities as requested.
  o   Be willing and able to speak publicly and represent SANCCOB when required.
  o   Carry out other tasks consistent with the general remit of the post as and when required.  

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
  The successful candidate will need the following:
  • Proven experience in fundraising and marketing, within the non-profit sector or related industries.
  • A deep passion for conservation, particularly seabird protection.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling written and verbal narratives that inspire donors and partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of an organisation and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Creative and innovative, with the ability to develop new fundraising and marketing strategies.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • A strong team player, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Able to cope under pressure and manage personal stress effectively, ensuring consistent performance even in challenging situations.
  • Experience handling confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Be self-motivated and proactive, with a focus on achieving goals and driving results.
  • Experience with donor management software and CRM systems is an advantage.

  QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:  
  • Matric certificate.
  • Degree or equivalent advantageous in any of the following: Marketing, Development Finance, Fundraising.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in NGO/NPO fundraising and marketing, of which 3+ years must be at management level.
  • SDG, MEL, Log frames, and Theory of Change applied knowledge is required.
  • Experience with institutional fundraising and foreign aid.
  • Ability to work with senior management.
  • Ability to provide strategic input and leadership and effectively manage a team. This includes being responsible for the overall performance of the team and holding the team accountable for financial targets.
  • Ability to lead and implement business planning and proposal development.
  • Microsoft Office Suite and CANVA or any other funding proposal development software.
  • Advanced writing, reporting and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of donor database systems.
  • Driver’s license and own transport.

REMUNERATION:
  Subject to negotiation. Remuneration package commensurate with qualifications, experience, and SANCCOB’s remuneration model.
