This is a small faith-based organisation made up of people from various faiths, who work with and through local commuinities to upskill and educate communities about sustainability relating to energy, water, food, climate justice and overall impacts from climate change

This role is part of the Leadership and Managment team in this small donor funded organisation which is made up of people from various faiths and religions, and who work with community leaders to educate and develop communities to use the earth sustainably.    

Key factors in this role are the requirements for sound Donor reporting across multiple projects, along with experience of handling Human Resources and Leadership. This is a hands-on, practical accounting role which reports to the Executive Director, and the crucial element is that your experience will have involved strong levels of control and compliance within Donor and Management reporting.    
You will have the following responsibilities:  

  • Develop and implement financial strategy, prepare and manage the core operational budget, and support management on developing annual operating budgets.
  • Contribute to the management team in terms of financial strategy and broader development of the organisation.
  • Develop funding budgets for proposals for fundraising and subscriptions and manage related invoicing.
  • Handle the full accounting function with one support administrator
  • Monitor and ensure statutory compliance in relations to all taxation and relevant returns.
  • Manage and conclude all aspects of the annual organisation and funder audits.


At the same time, you will handle all aspects of staff administration and controls across all staff.\ in conjunction with the external HR consultant. This function is around 15% of the working time over the Financial functions.  

  • Manage the overall personnel function to ensure that the organisation adheres to statutory requirements.
  • All monthly salaries are paid accurately and on time, in line with authorized salary documentation and statutory requirements.
  • Assist witht he recruitment process when new staff are employed
  • Employment offer letters, contracts, and amendments are accurate, complete, and issued on request.
  • Appropriate staff benefits are investigated.
  • Leave capturing and reporting is up to date and communicated monthly.
  • Employee and HR records are maintained in line with POPI requirements and secured.
  • Employee relations, discipline and performance issues are managed in collaboration with the HR Consultant


Ideally your background includes a Tertiary Accounting Degree, at least eight years of sound financial accounting experience within the Non-profit sector and it is essential that you can align yourself with the objectives of this Faith Based organisation - it is not an individual faith but is a component of various faiths, believing in the care of the earth, and aiming at educating and developing communities in this aspect.    
Own transport would be a strong advantage.
