JOB PURPOSE

Grassroot Soccer is an adolescent health organisation that uses the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilise young people to live healthier lives and be agents for change in their communities. GRS uses a sport-based peer learning methodology that increases adolescents’ knowledge and positive social connections, builds youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and life skills assets, facilitates access to health and social services, and supports adherence to biomedical treatment and positive protective behaviours.

 

To achieve this, GRS trains community-based male and female mentors aged 18-34 years old, called Coaches to deliver its curricula (SKILLZ), build positive relationships with adolescents and create safe spaces for participants to discuss sensitive topics. 

 

GRS delivers our SKILLZ programmes directly to youth participants as well as training key CBO and NGO partners to deliver the GRS methodology and curriculum.  Training, mentoring and management of SKILLZ Coaches is a key organizational focus area.  As such, GRS seeks to build a strong M&E team to ensure the success of the project. The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator is responsible for the tools, systems and standard operating procedures that monitor the performance of GRS programmes and activities. The M & E Coordinator is also responsible for supporting the GRS SA internal and external research agenda and planning internal and external evaluations

 

 

THE KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS FOR THIS POSITION ARE:

45% Oversees COE M&E processes and systems including conducting trainings.

10% Tool review and development for all GRS programmes 

  5% Assist SA M&E and Programmes to comply with GRS Global M&E processes and systems. 

20% Assist with M&E processes for TA programme- mainly site support visits and Trainings

10% Data Quality Control across all programmes using RDQA processes.

10% Research assistant guided by SA and Global Research and Development. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Programme Design, Technical Support and Systems Maintenance 

  • Develop and provide input into monitoring and evaluation methodologies for measuring GRS programmes to achieve its mission and outcomes.

  • Assist the COE team with implementation of research and evaluation guided and supported by M&E SA, Global MEL and R&D. 

  • In the COE work in collaboration with other departments to ensure that the monitoring and evaluation system is properly integrated into broader programmes. 

  • Explore new ground and contribute to a more systematic culture of learning and improvement at the COE.

  • Assist with aligning TA programme needs into SA M&E processes. 

  • Assess changing programmes needs with regards to M&E and Salesforce requirements 

  • Work with Global to align Salesforce to capture new programmes and programmes strategies (i.e. updating coaches profile, reviewing field as per programme needs, curriculum updates etc) 

  • Lead the COE processes of reviewing new curriculums and providing feedback to the curriculum and development team. 

  • Development and monitoring of M&E tools for all GRS programmes to better capture programme data.

Assist with  RDQA and DQA processes when requested

 

M & E System Management and Data Collection

  • Implement SA M&E SOP across programmes 

  • Ensure all the M&E procedures and processes are adhered to

  • Conduct M&E trainings based on RDQA results, technical support gaps and as per M&E capacity building plan. 

  • Provide assistance to the COE team in implementing audit recommendations 

  • Management of accuracy of all SA data input into Salesforce 

  • Ensure that all COE data is on track and captured as per data flow process (includes intervention reports, pre/post, HCT data, etc.) 

  • Liaise with TA M&E focal personnel to co-ordinate and manage technical support needed. 

  • Work closely with SA M&E manager and Global MEL team to ensure data quality management on GRS data management system. 

  • Run reports in Salesforce for donor reports and feedback to programme team especially COE team.

  • Periodically review M&E tools (pre and post quizzes, attendance forms, testing reports etc.) to fit the South African context 

 

Data Review, Reporting and Evaluation 

  • Review COE paper based and mobile data before data approval process.

  • Liaise with lead researchers for any observed research issues for mitigation and risk management.   

  • Assist with the review of Pre and Post statements 

  • Assist with abstract development for COE 

  • Assist with data review reports for COE 

  • Disseminate data to various stakeholders and platforms (conferences) 

  • Data reporting to various funders and internal stakeholders 

  • Assist with conducting RDQA for COE and other programmes when requested. 

  • Report monthly or when requested to COE Senior Programme Manager and M&E Manager about target progress and areas of improvement for COE. 

Contribute to the M&E report writing for all current grants requiring M&E data and systematically validating data as per M&E SOP.

 

People management

  • Provide training and support to COE and TA team .

  • Monitor and appraise the performance of assigned staff against agreed upon M&E responsibilities (Master coaches who are data capturers) 

  • Support the development of assigned staff with regards to capacity building around technology, Salesforce and M&E skills 

  • Provide input and feedback to line manager for Supervision Meetings with staff on M&E Objectives

You will work closely with the following people:

  • SA Senior M&E Manager 

  • COE Programme Manager 

  • Global MEL team 

  • GRS SA Programme Managers (TA Adhoc)

  • Global R&D team 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KEY COMPETENCIES 

  • Degree or Post-graduate in Public health or Social Sciences with 3-5 years’ experience 

  • Experience and ability to execute M&E tasks within the following frameworks GBVF, SRHR, HIV, Treatment, Engaging Men and Boys or Experimental Science/ Research (qualitative and quantitative), impact assessments, programme monitoring and evaluation and documentation 

  • Computer literacy with a strong background in data collection and evaluation 

  • Familiarity with NGO systems and an understanding of donor and government monitoring and evaluation requirements is required/essential 

  • Detail oriented, accurate and precise 

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, in particular Excel 

  • Applicants must be team players who are capable of working independently in a fast-paced and multicultural environment 

Experience with Salesforce or similar data management tools/ statistical software
