Job Title: Community Coach

Employment Duration: Fixed Term -  1 Year Contract

Location: Du Noon Clinic, Cape Town, South Africa

Stipend: R 5,000 per month.

Eat Better South Africa is a non-profit organization that operates at grassroots levels within local communities, to support the local public healthcare systems while establishing stable food security support systems through education, advocacy and knowledge sharing approach.

The primary objective of Eat Better South Africa is to build long-term, health-promoting environments that create sustainable and community-driven change by empowering individuals, families, and communities to improve their general health and well-being while emphasizing the role of nutrition education in teaching people what they can do for themselves to improve their health, and the importance of nutrition as a medium in prevention, treatment and management of chronic diseases.

Eat Better South Africa is looking to appoint a community coach to implement and support our programs in the Du Noon Community, Cape Town.

Main tasks: Responsibilities: 

Your main responsibility will be to educate community members about the direct link between food and health, by teaching people what they can do for themselves to improve their quality of life, by making the best dietary choices available to them. You’ll do this by:

• Recruit program participants.
• Facilitate weekly sessions.
• Prepare, plan, and implement nutrition education intervention (in group settings).
• Health assessments of participants on a weekly basis and record data.
• Oversee the WhatsApp group and continue to share nutrition information daily.
• Participate in health awareness campaigns and events. 

Personal Requirements:

• Must live in Du Noon, Cape Town, South Africa, 744.
• Willing to work on Saturdays.
• Have initiative, and energy, be self-motivated and be passionate about their work.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to undergo training.
• Have a strong and high work ethic and must function effectively in a community setting.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be computer literate.
• Have a reliable internet connection.
• Have matric and/or a higher learning certificate in community work, health or education.
• Must have access to a smartphone.
