About Company
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develop HST’s research and implementation science agenda in line with priority health system issues in the South Africa, the southern African region and relevant global health priorities.
- Manage the Research and Implementation Science Unit ensuring the design and implementation of projects and activities to successfully achieve HST’s strategic goals. This will include:
- Ensure dissemination of research results and other pertinent information that will contribute to bridging the gap between research and implementation
- Strengthen partnerships with stakeholders and funders including the National and Provincial Departments of Health, local and international development organisations, higher education and other research institutions, and other NPOs both local and international
- Support knowledge management within the organisation and ensure collaboration with other directorates and units within HST
- Review scientific literature and identify trends and opportunities for research, knowledge management and implementation science projects
- Provide strategic and technical support to other units’ research activities, helping build a highly collaborative work environment for optimal performance of HST’s technical functions
- Represent HST in public forums/meetings/conferences
- Contribute to board reports and board committee presentations
- Facilitate innovation and work to strengthen collaborative networks with relevant institutions
- Contribute to the overall leadership of HST as a member of the senior management team.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Health, or related field qualification.
- Doctoral degree in Public health, medicine or related field would be an added advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience in public health and research with 5 years of that at senior level.
- Experience of working in the NGO environment will be an added advantage
- Experience in managing across different research types
- Verifiable track record in writing successful grant proposal, publication record and leading their implementation
- Management, mentorship and coaching experience to support staff development of the research team
- Demonstrated competence and skill in research/implementation science and translating research into policy and practice
- Knowledge and experience of the Southern African health systems and policy research, public health, health information systems, monitoring and evaluation, the district health system, epidemiology and biostatistics
- Strong leadership skills with proven ability to lead a team of diverse technical and research staff
- Excellent knowledge and awareness of primary healthcare principles, national health priorities and health system challenges, and emerging global health issues.

- Good interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent writing skills including ability to package information for different professional and non-professional audiences.
- Excellent level of computer literacy including knowledge of various multimedia tools to disseminate information to target audiences.
- Good level of self-organisation and ability to multi-task, balancing competing priorities often under pressure
- English language proficiency both verbal and written.
- Willingness to travel throughout South Africa and beyond as required.
REMUNERATION
A salary package commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications and in line with HST’s Job Grading System will be offered.
