This permanent position will be based at Emavundleni Research Centre in Crossroads, Cape Town. The main purpose of this position is to render efficient and effective clinical care to volunteers on research studies. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • MBChB and HPCSA registration as a medical practitioner (independent practice)
  • 3 or more years’ work experience in the clinical drug trials environment 
  • Currently or previously registered with SAHPRA as a principal investigator (PI) or sub-investigator with lead clinician responsibilities
  • Current lead or supervisory role within the clinical research environment
  • Valid Code 08 Drivers License
  • Excellent Communication (verbal and written)  
  • Team Leadership/management skills  
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge
  • Strong Computer proficiency: Email, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent ability to build interpersonal relationships 
  • Strong client focus 
  • Strong work ethic and integrity
  • Detail oriented and capable of completing study documentation legibly and accurately
  • Willingness to perform clinical admin tasks which forms a significant part of the job

Advantageous: 

  • Previously or currently registered with SAHPRA as Investigator of Record / Principal Investigator of a clinical drug trial
  • Experience with managing clinical staff (doctors and nurses)
  • Competence in Contraceptive Implant insertion  
  • Current GCP (Good Clinical Practice) certificate

Responsibilities:

  1. Taking care of healthy volunteering participants, sometimes having minor ailments
  2. Conduct Clinical Procedures to ensure that participants are managed according to the study protocol, site specific SOPs and South African department of Health guidelines. 
  3. Adherence to study protocol and study specific procedures manual to ensure that all sponsor specified metrics with respect to accrual, retention, participant safety, QC rate, adverse/serious adverse event reporting, study procedures completion and protocol deviations are met.
  4. Study Administration as per site and sponsor specific documents (protocol, SOPs, study specific procedures manual) and as per GCP guidelines to ensure that study documentation is accurate and complete with the aim of producing reliable and credible research data. In addition, adherence to HSP guidelines to ensure ethical study conduct.
  5. Safety Officer for all clinical trials implemented at the research site.
  6. Role as principal investigator on a proportion of clinical trials implemented at the research site. 

Applicants will be remunerated according to a standardized Clinical Trials Senior Medical Officer payscale.
