COMMUNITY ORGANISER

 

CORC is looking to fill the role of community organizer in its  Locally-led Urban Transformations project in Stellenbosch Municipality area. The main role of the community organizer is to become part of the CORC projects team and specifically assist in engagements with the communities around the project area: Stellenbosch Municipality. The organiser shall help to create a positive social change, develop programs, and enlist the required project support . 

 

Main responsibilities:

Building relationships

The Community organizer will work closely with residents and community leaders to build relationships, understand their needs, and uncover resources to help with community issues in-line with the overall project objectives. And also to c ultivate, establish, and maintain collaborative working relationships with community stakeholders and members. 

Developing programs

The Community organizer will have to use what he/she learns from residents to develop programs, campaigns and interventions that can help the community achieve solutions and project objectives. Supporting the community capacitation programs: Participate in and attend organizing events, meetings, trainings to further achieve organizational objectives. Supporting the documentation team with project activity written summaries and media materials like photos, videos etc.  

 

Recruiting volunteers/community participants

Community organizer will work with the project manager and settlement leadership structures to recruit volunteers and increase participation in project activities. They may also help develop leadership who can prioritize solutions and strategies for change. 

Monitoring and evaluation

Community organizer will also monitor the progress of project implementation and initiatives to ensure they align with project objectives. May also distribute progress reports and provide recommendations for changes.  

Qualifications and experience

  •      Experience in NGO work especially in informal settlements 
  •      Excellent community organizational skills interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills  
  •      Experience in informal settlements 
  •      Should also be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, and be comfortable with social media and digital communication 
  •      Experience in multi-stakeholder engagements 
  •      Matric holder and at least 3 years experience in related field
