   ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT MANAGER - 

 NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY DRIVEN EXPERTISE 

This multi-faith Non-Profit organisation is committed to increasing awareness, understanding and action-taking on eco-justice, sustainable living and climate change, by faith leaders and their communities throughout Southern Africa. The organisation's vision is faith communities caring for living earth. As an institute of people of many faiths, united in diversity through a common commitment to earth keeping. This role of Environmental Project Co-Ordinator is to lead on climate change activities: to increase understanding of climate change amongst faith-based communities and members of civil society; to build climate resilience in faith communities; and to advocate for implementation of an ethical, and socio-economic and ecologically just transition and sustainable future.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Monitoring Climate Change Policy, development with a particular focus on food systems and energy access / just transition for regular briefings and reports.

  • Oversight of the production of a policy paper.

  • Setting up excellent systems and managing the outcomes. Ensuring highly levels of accuracy and detail are produced and strong problem solving management.

  • Track governance mechanisms, in relation to food and climate justice in order to identify where there are (or not) policy frameworks and implementation of policies and compliance.

  • Liaise with other staff, external consultants and relevant parties, to provide food and climate justice resources, including leaflets, posters, liturgical material, videos.

  • Faith Leader Training and Follow-on Support, and Recruit faith leaders (with an emphasis on women and young people) from many faiths, for training on food systems, and the impacts of industrialisation on animal, human, environment, and climate health

  • Produce campaign and promotional materials.

  • Advocacy - Track and influence food and climate policies (govt and others) and collective commitments of different faith communities;

  • Ensure strategic partnerships are developed by faith leaders with faith communities, NGOs and CSOs in the Southern African region.

     Communications -

  • Support the Communications Coordinator in sourcing, writing, and generating stories for media, newsletters, website and social media, and by collecting photographs, Initiate and promote petitions and mobilise volunteers for campaigns to promote agro-ecology and food sovereignty;

  • Raise awareness in faith communities of the unsustainable and unethical nature of our industrial food systems.

  • Relationship Building/Networking -

  • Help organise public, multi-faith celebrations (around food and climate-related days and religious holidays), including engagement in GreenActionWeek.

  • Project Administration - Monitor the project budget, expenditure and undertake such administrative tasks as may be required for the effective functioning of the project, and write Project Administration as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Masters degree in Environmental Management with minimum five years' relevant work experience in managing a team. Strong Project management experience and excellent report writing skills essential.

  • Previous experience and work on climate issues including monitoring policy and research.

  • Attendance of national, regional and global meetings (e.g. UNFCCC COP).

  • Committed, hard working with attention to detail and ability to problem solve.

  • An ability to speak authentically and with integrity and conviction from a faith perspective.

  • Ability to present faith based message professionally in both written and oral formats including public presentations.

  • Ability to think and act critically and creatively, strategically and tactically.

  • High-level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate others.

  • Team player and self-motivated, cooperative, tenacious, tactful and committed to continuous learning.

This is a long-established donor funded organisation that works on an annual Renewable contract dependent on Funding.

Desired Skills:

  • Excellent Project Management skills. Strong systems and attention to detail required

  • Environmental expertise and qualification are required

Desired Qualification Level:

  • Master's degree in environmental management or similar
