Job Title:

Registered Counsellor

Purpose:

 

The primary focus of this role is to promote health & wellness among students. The incumbent will be based at TVETs or Universities and will be required to travel to different campuses in urban and rural based colleges. He/she must be knowledgeable and experienced in conducting COVID-19 screening & testing, HTS, TB, STI, and provision of contraception amongst others, etc. Assessing how each facility conducts every aspect of HTS, TB, STI & COVID-19, waste management, and data recording.

Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members; providing highly experienced and efficient clinical services and psychological support to participants, and their families, and supervising assigned team members whilst adhering to all relevant policies and regulations.

Main Functions: 

  1. Psychological Intervention

  2. Conduct a range of supportive and compensatory psychological interventions. 

  3. Manage complete sub-elements of intervention programmes with associated interventions.

  4. Design sub-elements of intervention programmes and processes.

  5. Execute less advanced, more structured interventions. 

  6. Devise and implement presentations and workshops for psychoeducation and mental health promotion. 

  7. Provide preventative and developmental counselling services and interventions on all systems levels.

  8. Perform supportive psychological interventions to enhance emotional functioning and mental well-being.

  9. Conduct basic psychological screening for mental health as a preliminary screening tool to refer appropriately.

  10. Develop preventative and developmental interventions on all systems levels.

  11. Provide counselling in conjunction with interdisciplinary support teams.

  12. Provide psychoeducation and mental health promotion

 

  1. Policy & Standards Implementation

    • Assist with policy formulation based on various aspects of psychological theory and research. 

 

  • Participate in the designing, management, and evaluation of psychologically based programmes in diverse settings. 

 

Requirements: 

 

 

  1. Professional bachelor’s degree in psychology 

  2. Bachelor Honours degree or the equivalent to the Psych Degree that incorporates an approved 6 months or 720-hour face-to-face practicum.

  3. Registered with the HPCSA as a Registered Counsellor

Behavioural competencies: 

  1. 5 years of relevant Counselling experience

  2. A valid driver’s licenseessential 

  3. Professional ethics and conduct 

  4. Interviewing techniques
