Gender Links, a dynamic Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg, promoting gender equality and justice, seeks the services of an experienced, skilled, highly motivated and committed Chief Financial Officer for the Gender Links Regional Hub. The Regional Hub services all GL branches including four country offices; GL Services (including the Grant Making Unit) and GL Cottages. The post is ideally based in Johannesburg but because Gender Links is a regional organisation, we welcome applications from any country in Southern Africa with flexibility to travel.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the financial operations of the organisation, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

  2. Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company's growth and operational objectives.

  3. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.

  4. Manage and supervise all procurement, ensuring alignment with policies and donor contracts.

  5. Prepare financial reports for all donors as required and within the contractual timeframes and in accordance with donor contracts.

  6. Manage GL’s investment fund, auditors, and financial institutions.

  7. Oversee GL’s sub granting portfolio. 

  8. Lead and mentor the finance team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

  9. Provide strategic recommendations to senior executives and the Board based on financial analysis and performance metrics.

  10. Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditures.

 

Qualifications and experience

  1. Degree in Accounting, professional qualification such as ACCA, CA, CPA. A masters’ degree would be an added advantage.

  2. Affiliation or membership of an accounting professional body. 

  3. A minimum of 10 years in financial management with progressive growth in responsibility with at least 5 of those at a senior/ management level.

  4. Strong knowledge of financial regulations, compliance, and risk management.

  5. Experience within the development/ NGO sector including sub-granting. 

  6. Proven experience of managing donors and reporting requirements.

  7. Proficient in Microsoft Suite and other computer packages.

  8. Good knowledge and experience of Sage Pastel Evolution (non-negotiable).

  9. Valid drivers’ licence.

  6. Ability to work within a team and provide support to staff.

  7. Excellent verbal, analytical, and numeracy skills.
