FINANCE & COMPLIANCE MANAGER


Ndifuna Ukwazi is a non-profit organization and law centre advocating for urban land justice in Cape Town. NU engages in litigation, research, and activism to advance the rights

The Finance & Compliance Manager will be responsible for the overall financial management, planning, and budgeting of the organization. This role involves overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, managing donor funds, and supporting the senior management team in strategic decision-making. The Finance
Manager plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the organization and ensuring efficient use of resources.


Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Reporting:
o Develop and manage annual organizational budgets in collaboration with the management team and work area coordinators.
o Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for staff and team heads, the board of trustees, and donors of NU.
o Provide strategic financial analysis and forecasting to support decision-making.
o Oversee the preparation of audited financial statements and liaise with external auditors.


Donor Management:
o Manage donor funding agreements and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.
o Oversee the preparation and submission of financial reports to donors, ensuring alignment with grant terms and conditions.
o Maintain a strong relationship with donors through transparent financial communication.


Accounting:
o Oversee and support the Finance Administrator in the day-to-day financial operations, including payroll and bank reconciliations.
o Ensure compliance with financial regulations and tax laws, including SARS and Department of labour submissions.
o Maintain financial policies and procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets.
 

Team and Stakeholder Collaboration:
o Provide financial training and support to team heads and project coordinators within the organisation, enabling them to effectively manage project budgets.
o Support the management, team heads and project coordinators with financial advice for strategic decision-making.


Risk Management:
o Implement and maintain robust internal controls to minimize financial risks.
This extends to drafting and maintaining all policies and procedures within the organization. Fundraising and donor management
o Support the director in donor management and fundraising initiatives.
o Actively explore investment opportunities that align with NU's mission and growth plans.
Compliance to all statutory requirements (Trust deed, SARS, Department of labour, BBBEE)
Support NU’s movement partners financial management.


Qualifications and Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. A professional qualification (CA, CIMA, or ACCA) is an advantage.
● A minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management and in a management role, preferably in the non-profit sector.
● Experience managing donor funds and grants, with a deep understanding of donor compliance and reporting requirements.
● Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks) and MS Office Suite.
● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
● Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff.
● Commitment to social justice and the mission of Ndifuna Ukwazi.

Location: Cape Town
Salary: A salary commensurate with experience and with Ndifuna Ukwazi’s designated
salary will be offered.
