Humana People to People in South Africa seeks to recruit 1 Environmental Health Practitioner. The successful applicants will be based in Ehlanzeni District (Nkomazi)in Mpumalanga Province.

Job Purpose

The Environmental Health Practitioner will implement the principles of risk assessment and management to improve the health of the community and contribute to sustainable development. The Environmental Health Practitioner will conduct inspections of assigned sites and settings to ensure applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations are being met.

The HPPSA is looking for a candidate who can demonstrate the following qualities:

Qualifications/ Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental health (Safety, Biology, Chemistry), or a related field.

2. Computer literate in Ms Word, Excel and Power Point

3. 1-3 years of related experience

4. 3-5 years’ experience in malaria surveillance programs

5. Must have a driver’s license and 2-5 years of driving experience.

6. Good knowledge of malaria elimination

Detailed Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Emergency Response

1. Recognize health risks in accordance with relevant legislation and best practices.

2. Determine intervention measures and corrective actions for the identified environmental health risks.

3. Monitor and review the effectiveness of the comprehensive risk management plan.

4. Prepare findings, recommendations, and requirements and report in an acceptable format.

5. Develop verification tools to measure and evaluate all elements of environmental health risk management.

Public Education and Outreach

1. Assess health risks and their impact within the environmental health field.

Vector Control

1. Work on vector population reduction
