The EELC is a public interest law organisation established in 2012. We are a team of legal activists working to advance the rights of young people, to quality and equality in the education system, through legal research, advocacy and strategic litigation. 

Based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town – EELC seeks to appoint a

HEAD OF SUPPORT SERVICES

The Equal Education Law Centre is looking for a Head of Support Services to join the organisation’s Executive leadership team. The successful candidate must be a self-motivated individual with a demonstrated commitment and passion for social justice, who can support the leadership and development of the organisation. 

The Head of Support Services will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:

Financial Management:    

 

  1. Review and implementation of financial policies and procedures for the organization in line with statutory requirements.

  2. Lead the annual budget preparation process.

  3. Monitor income and expenditure against organisation and donor budgets.

  4. Provide financial analyses, reports and forecasts to the Executive Director and the Board.

  5. Financial reporting to donors.

  6. Fundraising and donor management support to the Executive Director.

  7. Oversee and coordinate preparation for the annual financial audit, including liaison with the Auditor and Treasurer. 

  8. Review donor contract documents and budgets as needed.

  9. Monitor performance of investments and bank accounts.

 

Operational Management: 

               

  1. Lead and manage all operational and administrative aspects of EELC. 

  2. Identify best practices and improve internal systems & develop and review internal policies that guide the EELC in its work.

  3. Assist in creating workflow processes to ensure the various aspects of the work of the EELC are carried out efficiently and effectively. 

  4. Assist with developing systems to monitor and evaluate the impact of the work of the EELC.

  5. Ensure all Trust and NPO statutory requirements are met. 

 

HR Management: 

 

  • Oversee recruitment of staff and their induction into the organisation.

  • Ensure HR policy is updated regularly.

  • Compile annual staff development programme in consultation with the Executive Director and senior staff. 

  • Review and refine staff performance appraisal processes. 

  • Advise and support Executive Director and senior team on HR related matters, including performance management and labour law issues.

  • Support the Executive Director in providing oversight and guidance to the management of the team. 

 

Strategic planning:             

 

  1. As part of the leadership of the organisation, support the Executive Director to develop and advance a clear strategic agenda for the organisation and regularly evaluate the outcomes of our work.

 

 

The Head of Support Services must meet the following criteria:

 

  1. A BComm / Business or Operations Management/ HR Hons degree or equivalent. 

  2. Proven track record in financial management essential.

  3. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar leadership and managerial position in a Non-profit organisation. 

  4. Analytical and decisive with the ability to set priorities and manage expectations.

  5. Ability to think strategically and align the financial and strategic goals of the EELC.

  6. Ability to operationalise strategic goals to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the services and work of the EELC. 

  7. High attention to detail, adherence to deadlines and excellent levels of accuracy.

  8. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and flexibility to manage changing priorities.

  9. Strong team management skills and a commitment to developing a diverse team of individuals.

  10. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, in a timely and responsive manner.

  11. Solid MS Office, in particular Excel skills

  12. Based in Cape Town or surrounds or willing to relocate.
