Auxiliary/ Enrolled Nursing Assistant

Purpose:

The incumbent in the position will be responsible for the general care and well-being of the clients through continuous monitoring. The incumbent must ensure that clients are always safe, this includes caring for the patient, his possessions, documentation and the control and economical use of stock and equipment.

Main Functions: 

1. Deliver basic nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, with continuous observation of the physical and emotional state of clients.

1. Support the patient on their arrival into the ward pre-and post-operatively.

2. Monitor a patient’s vital signs – implement and maintain hygiene, physical comfort, and reassurance of patients

3. Assess the patient to ensure they have recovered and can be discharged.

4. Contribute to a positive client experience by assisting in the creation of a conducive environment, within the scope of practice for enrolled nurse auxiliaries

5. Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions

6. Effective communication with patients regarding their care

7. Practice the principles of infection prevention and all Standard precautions.

8. Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives, and visitors.

9. Provide the delivery of evidence-based nursing care.

1. Risk, Health, and Safety Compliance

1. Ongoing audit of health records to ensure compliance.

2. Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, charged, and credited appropriately.

3. Maintain a therapeutic, clean, and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards.

4. Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the OHS Act.

5. Report potential/actual risks identified.

Requirements: 

   Qualification 

1. Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.

2. Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary qualification.

3. Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
      

Experience

1. Minimum of 1 year as an enrolled nurse assistant.

2. Knowledge and understanding of the principles of sterilization, disinfection, and aseptic and sterile technique

3. Knowledge of Infection prevention and control (IPC) principles and protocols
