SBCWC: Operations Manager

 

The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children (SBCWC) is a an NPO that runs several programmes in response to gender-based violence, including a one-stop centre for women and children who are survivors of gender-based violence.

SBCWC seeks to appoint an Operations Manager to be based in greater Cape Town. Preference will be given to candidates with a finance background. 

The position will report to the Finance Manager and Director.

This is a full-time position based at SBCWC. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. The development of a hospitable, efficient, safe and harmonious physical work environment within the Centre by:

    1. Assessing and monitoring health and safety risks and hazards in the workplace.

    2. Advising employees on how to minimise or ultimately avoid risks and hazards in the workplace.

    3. Offering general health and safety advise to employees.

    4. Ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols of all DSD and other government departments, at all levels

    5. Holding regular safety team meetings and drills and ensuring the team is properly accredited and complies with all requirements including those set by DSD, local government and other officials.

  2. Ensuring that basic facilities such as water, heating and security systems are well-maintained. 

  3. Ensuring that the facility meets government regulations and environmental, health and security standards. 

  4. Management of building and security operations and administration. 

  5. Overseeing building projects, renovations or refurbishments. 

  6. Management of the kitchen programme.

  7. Responsible for the security of the facility.

  8. Contribute to and support the Director as required, in relation to the operation and reporting on security, health and safety, maintenance and other related systems. 

  9. Oversee the efficient functioning of the maintenance team.

  10. Contribute reports for M & E assessments, donors and the like.

  11. Liaise with service providers including security personnel, building service providers and others. 

  12. Oversee the day-to-day management of contractors, consultants and any other contributors to the efficient functioning of the Centre.

  13. Assist the Finance Manager with basic finance duties, as needed. 

  14. Other related duties as requested.

 

Qualifications and experience:

  1. Minimum qualification of a BCom or related degree

  2. Excel, Word and Microsoft competency.

  3. Excellent verbal and written communication

  4. A basic understanding of GBV and survivor centric service

  5. Organized and resourceful

  6. Adept at prioritizing, scheduling, and multitasking.

  7. Attention to detail

  8. Finance experience highly desirable
