Grow Great Flourish Programme: Strategic Lead

Grow Great is a national campaign aimed at galvanising South Africa towards a national commitment towards a stunting free generation by 2030. Stunting is a social justice issue that is associated with lifelong cognitive defects, educational and employment challenges, increased risk of chronic diseases in adulthood and cycles of intergenerational poverty.

Flourish is Grow Great’s flagship intervention for supporting and empowering moms through the critical first 1000 days of their child’s life, a time of great vulnerability to stunting. Flourish delivers antenatal and postnatal classes to communities through Flourish hosts, underpinned by the values of empathy, non-judgment and respect.

Since launching, Flourish has licensed over 300 hosts who have facilitated antenatal and postnatal classes that have reached over 30 000 pregnant and new mothers to date.

Flourish is recruiting for a Strategic Lead to join our dedicated and professional team to oversee the strategy of the programme as we continue to expand our physical presence from six provinces to all nine.

The Strategic Lead will be based at our office in Midrand with domestic travel on a regular basis and reports to the Grow Great Executive Director. The key areas of focus are to

  • Provide oversight and direction of the entire Flourish programme.

  • Continuing analysis of the programme and potential opportunities to sustainably scale Flourish (drawing on programme data, South African and international experience).

  • Identify innovations and/or new developments in the sector that can be adopted to advance the desired impact and scaling of the Flourish program.

  • Design of key strategies for Flourish scale-up.

  • Support the development of implementation plans.

  • Drive Flourish resource mobilisation strategy, including the development of a mixed market (social employment and franchise) strategy for Flourish.

  • Contribute to the successful implementation of Flourish and the overall Grow Great Campaign.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, enterprise development or entrepreneurship

  • 3 years’ experience in a senior programme role

  • Experience in the public health sector

  • Good understanding of the public health sector, maternal and child health, community development and/or social enterprise.

  • Previous experience working with women in social enterprises, the informal economic sector and/or the care sector will be an advantage

Competencies

We are looking for:

  • An ambitious self-starter with a high-performance mindset

  • The ability to work well under pressure without compromising quality of work

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence

  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience and skills, including with donors, government and civil society partners

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to integrate into and lead a team

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Someone who shares the Grow Great and Flourish values

  • A shared commitment to Grow Great’s Vision and Mission

  • Staunch commitment to social justice

Grow Great is an incubated project of the DG Murray Trust. DGMT is a public innovator committed to developing South Africa’s potential through strategic investment.
