WOMEN’S HEALTH SOCIAL WORKER

Groote Schuur Hospital Trust is the premier fundraising arm of Groote Schuur Hospital, working in collaboration    with    its    Facility Board,    Hospital    Management    and    key    stakeholders    to    identify    the    most pressing needs that do not fall within the allocated yearly operational budget of the Hospital and enable pioneering world-class healthcare for all.

Groote    Schuur    Hospital Trust    seeks    to    appoint    a

WOMEN’S HEALTH SOCIAL WORKER

To work within the Groote Schuur Hospital Trust’s Women’s Health Project Team at Groote Schuur Hospital and Mitchell's Plain District Hospital to roll out and scale the pilot phase of their Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) screening intervention. Key responsibility is counselling women patients who were screened as experiencing IPV and refer accordingly.

Contract Type:    Fixed Term   (6 months). Possible    extension    of    contract    -    funding    dependent

Reporting    to:    Social Work Manager/Projects Manager

Remuneration:  (based    on    working experience    as    Social Worker)

Key    responsibilities    of    the    Women’s Health Social Worker include    but    are    not    limited to:

1. Participating    in training    sessions    to    upskill    in gender-based    violence  (GBV) - specifically intimate partner violence (IPV) detection, referral, support.
2. Provide    counselling    and    support    to    all    women referred    to    and    were    willing    to    see    the    social worker.
3. Capturing    data    onto    digital programme
4. Keep    extensive    social    work    notes    on    all    patient    interactions.
5. Making    referral to    appropriate    NGO    if    patient agrees, for    further    counseling    and    or    shelter.
6. Working    with    screening    staff    as    hospital staff    to    ensure smooth    integration of    the    screening and counselling interventions.
7. Regular    feedback    to    Projects    Manager/Head    of    Social    work    re    any    challenges/feedback to improve screening and referrals processes.
8. To    avail yourself    for    supervision    and    debriefing    by    the social    work    supervisors    in the relevant    hospital units

The Women’s Health Social Worker must meet the following criteria:

1. Bachelor’s degree in social work or equivalent qualification
2. Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals as a social worker
3. Experience working as a social worker
4. Research experience advantageous
5. Passion for Women’s Health particular interest gender-based violence initiatives Computer literacy
6. Excellent organizational and time-management skills Counselling and assessment skills
7.  Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills Attention to detail
8. High degree of autonomy and initiative
9. Fluent in Afrikaans and English
