Summary 

AfrikaBurn is looking to employ a part time Individual Giving Officer to join the Development team. This role will be central to diversifying our resource mobilisation, have responsibility for the co-development and execution of donation appeals and campaigns, and stewarding our community and individual supporters. The Individual Giving Officer will report to the Executive Director of Development (EDD) and work in open collaboration across the organisation. 

AfrikaBurn is the strategic driver of Burning Man culture in the Southern African region and plays a significant role in the arts and culture sector of South Africa. Most known for its flagship event in the Tankwa Karoo, as a public benefit organisation, AfrikaBurn is the human scaffold that helps a diverse creative community propel numerous arts and development projects.     

The Individual Giving Officer should be a team player who is open to working with volunteers. The required outputs of this role will be dynamic depending on the organisation’s needs and environment.

Key responsibilities

Support the development and execution of the individual giving programme to increase donor engagement, retention and resource mobilisation. 

  •        Collate data and information to build case studies for support 
  •        Draft and produce regular giving resources, including those required for direct appeals, for Comms team and Askers
  •        Collaborate on the development of creative and inspiring content
  •        Prepare and support Comms team and Askers with correct and current data and information
  •        Use data and creative techniques to develop appeals with integrity
  •        Manage and track potentials / donor journeys
  •        Cultivate and sustain relationships with key supporters to nurture consistent, personalised, discreet and excellent stewardship 
  •        Foster engagement and retention, aligning organisational priorities and adapting to needs and priorities.
  •        Determine and utilise the most appropriate platforms and tools for integrated donor management
  •        Develop databases and use research tools to identify prospective donors for new or ongoing individual giving campaigns
  •        Support Development with the management of donor gateways 
  •        Co-create a year round programme of engagement.
  •        Contribute to a culture of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
  •        Keep pace with best practice, current trends and learnings across the sector.
  •        Contribute to Development as a whole    - researching, sharing and testing new ideas - supporting all resource mobilisation                                                                     

Minimum Requirements   

  •        At least 5 years’ proven experience in mobilising resources through individual giving
  •        Experience with local and international giving
  •        Experience with managing online giving portals, crowdfunding and campaigns
  •        Familiarity with Section 18A donations
  •        Knowledge of data protection requirements in resource mobilisation
  •        Intermediate to advanced Google Suite/ Google Apps or MS Office
  •        Numerate and confident working with budgets
  •        Ability to learn and work within an hybrid environment
  •        Able to work in Cape Town
