Programme for Technological Careers (PROTEC) is a national non-profit organisation implementing an effective, holistic model of education and career enrichment to help previously disadvantaged school learners with real aptitude, to successfully embark on careers in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

PROTEC seeks to appoint a General Manager Finance & HR, based in Randburg Gauteng.

This is a full time position with an initial 3-month probationary period.

The finance Manager will report to the Chief Executive Officer and will have overall responsibility for managing all financial aspects of PROTEC.  Specific duties and responsibilities include:

As the GM Finance and HR, you will be part of the Management Committee of the organisation and the head of finance. As such and apart from some of the processing responsibilities for the National Office, branch network and projects country-wide, as listed below; you will be part of the team that recommends policy and strategy to the Board and following approval adherence to those policies and as part of the team that will deliver on the strategy. Further, introduce early warning systems to monitor, review and report on financial risks. As part of a small management team and within thin the NPO space, all members of the management team are expected from time-to-time to get hands-on and in some instances, across disciplines.

As the GM Finance and HR, you will proactively drive a strategy of consistently communicating the financial health of the organisation to management and provide supervision and guidance for the department. In addition to updating precise spending, you will also keep management abreast of deficits and reallocations in accordance with funder requirements.

You will also be responsible for overseeing but in some cases the recording and capturing financial transactions, maintaining financial records and processing payments as well as preparing financial reports, which include:

  1. Budgeting, forecasting and financial reposting including variance analysis

  2. Oversee the procurement processes ensuring that policies and adhered too, ethical behaviour by all staff and procurement from the most suitable suppliers.

  3. All statutory submissions including but not limited to SARS PAYE, VAT, Section 18a third party submissions, Department of Labour, Department of Social Development, etc.

  4. Oversee the planning and execution of the internal periodic audits and annual external audits

  5. Payroll processing and overall management

  6. Ensure that any HR and IR processes are followed as per policy and legislation in conjunction with our external service provider

  7. As the organisation is currently in a growth phase, the incumbent will be expected to provide the budgets for donor proposals and as part of the management committee, ensure that all proposals are reviewed before submission and timely responses to donors queries and revisions

  8. Provide timely donor financial reports as per agreements or as and when required

  9. Maintain sound relationships with all stakeholders

  10. Manage that organisations assets and other resources

Requirements:

  1. A Finance or Accounting Degree and/or a professional Accounting qualification e.g. SAIPA; ACCA or CIMA

  2. At least 5-8 years' experience in a finance management, accountant, or similar senior role, preferably gained within the non-profit sector.

  3. A person with the attributes that will join a team, any of who being capable of leading PROTEC in future years.

  4. Proficiency with relevant accounting software

  5. Organisational management with the ability to coach staff and manage budgets

  6. We require a person that is deadline driven, attention to detail and accurate.
